Illegal nightclub, bazooka dealers, and….the architect who conquered.

I used to live next to an illegal nightclub that the police wouldn’t do anything about and the FBI was investigating.

Hearing that the feds were watching didn’t do much for my sleep, which I was regularly roused up for at 4am.

If you’ve ever gone a long time without a decent night's sleep, you know how it can drive you crazy. And unlike a crying baby there’s no redeeming quality to the late night oonst oonst.

I had to take matters into my own hands.

Bazooka? Too destructive.

Friendly conversation? If the police were afraid to talk to them, I wasn’t about to.

What I had to do was take my own advice. I did what I would have told a client in the same situation and installed soundproof windows.

Sanity restored. Blood pressure came down. And we could afford to let the authorities take their sweet time closing the club down without permanently losing our minds.

Why am I telling you this? Here’s why.

Design journalist and wellness design consultant Jamie Gold interviewed me for her latest piece “How Noise Harms Your Health”.

She goes deep into the harmful effects that noise has on our lives. And I give a mix of easy to implement diy tactics as well as construction techniques to reduce noise.

Do you have a noise issue driving you crazy? Tell me about it. Maybe we can solve it before you go bazooka shopping.
