This apartment renovation transforms an industrial-style unit into a vibrant, functional home for art collectors who love to entertain.
The design showcases their colorful art collection, creates spaces for lively gatherings, and offers a tranquil retreat for family life—all while celebrating light, color, and creativity.
The clients, referred by my past clients in the same apartment line a few floors above, envisioned something entirely their own. Unlike the cozy, bedroom-focused renovation I designed upstairs, they wanted openness, bold use of color, and luxurious comfort to enhance their social lifestyle.
The building, a former factory converted into apartments, had high ceilings and unconventional layouts that posed both challenges and opportunities. Armed with knowledge of the building’s quirks, we maximized the space to bring their vision to life.
Bathrooms as Artful Respites
The bathrooms were completely reconfigured to provide both functionality and aesthetic harmony, reflecting the airy and artistic character of the home.
Guest Bathroom: Designed as a bright, clean retreat, this bathroom features matte white Fantini Levante fixtures that harmonize with white tiles, trim, and hallway elements. A custom floating vanity enhances the sense of lightness and serenity, creating an inviting and cohesive design.
Master Bathroom: In contrast, the master bathroom adopts a bold palette of black and white. Chrome Dornbracht fixtures evoke the flow of gentle waterfalls, while a room-wide vanity anchors the design with elegance and precision.
A Portal of Light
A dim hallway within the apartment was transformed into a glowing centerpiece: a portal of light. By reimagining an existing glass block wall facing a dark courtyard, we created a vibrant “painting” of light with customizable colors controlled by remote. This sculptural element brings life and mood to the apartment, setting the tone for the entire space.
Dynamic living spaces
The apartment layout celebrates flexibility and creativity. Oversized sliding panels showcase large-scale artworks while allowing the bedroom to open completely to the sitting area. This seamless integration of public and private spaces supports the clients’ love of entertaining while preserving their personal sanctuary.
Designing for Color and Celebration
This project is a testament to the transformative power of design, blending functional ingenuity with artistic expression. From the illuminated hallway to the playful yet luxurious bathrooms, every detail amplifies the clients’ passion for art, light, and celebration.
